This article deals with the question of atheism in classical Islam. Several free thinkers actually criticized religion. Some of them did not accept the idea of a personal God, and believed rather in a general, non-personal Fate. Others refused to believe in the mission of the prophets, who they considered as dangerous and unfaithful leaders. An other trend was simply hedonist, and put religion aside considering it as hostile to pleasure and happiness.
